The March 11th magnitude 9 earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, made parts of Tohoku region that were closer to the epicenter sink by several centimeters resulting in making the areas flood permanently or at the hours when the high tide pushes the sea water inland. . In Ishinomaki city there were many destroyed areas of which some were permanently flooded and some flooded when the tide come. Also some areas where houses were not destroyed were flooded but a way was found to stop the water from going there as people were still living in their homes. The earth around Ishinomaki sank by 78 cm.
